Summertime in Scotland: Paula de Matos and I have just been notified that our interactive workshop session will be going ahead at this year’s UX Scotland conference. The event is taking place on 19-20 June at the “Our Dynamic Earth” venue in Edinburgh. Our tutorial session: A Survival Guide for UX in Complex Environments In our session, we aim to provide insights into how you can approach user experience design problems in complex fields with confidence. The examples we draw on are based on…Continue Reading “Edinburgh here we come…”
EMBL-EBI recently hosted Mark Crowe of QFAB for a talk about Bioinformatics in Australia, which I sketchnoted. It was interesting to hear about the challenges that are faced over there; in particular, the huge distances between cities and the relatively small population, which we in the South East of England struggle to appreciate!
UX Cambridge 2013 was a great opportunity to sketchnote! The packed schedule got my Muji pens scribbling. Have a look at some of the results here (I’ll put them on Flickr when I get a sec too…) – Enjoy! If you would like a high resolution version of any of these sketchnotes (e.g. for printing) just tweet me: @JenniferCham Links UX Cambridge 2013 website My Flickr photostream
Last night was the UX Cambridge kick-off social event: an evening bake-off in the catering school kitchen at The Park, Cambridge Regional College (CRC). It was a great evening! We arrived after a day of workshops and were put into pairs. I was with Richard Hare (@Richardhare of Flare Consulting). We decided to make chocolate muffins with an added extra: beetroot. According to Richard, this ingredient provided a good way to get a nice, moist sponge – so that’s what we did. But our innovation…Continue Reading “UX Cambridge bake off – introducing Spaghetti-bolo-cupcakes”
Paula de Matos and I are looking forward to presenting a session on ‘complex UX’ at the UX Cambridge 2013 conference next week. The conference is being held at Churchill College, Cambridge and includes a UX bake off social event at Cambridge Regional College (see pictures from last year). We hope you can make our session on Thursday (Day 2) Our session is a tutorial taking place on Thursday 5th Sept at 3.45pm. Some of the material we cover is based on our recent peer-reviewed…Continue Reading “Suvival Guide for Complex UX: our tutorial at UX Cambridge, 4-6 Sept 2013”
I really like this article on the ten simple rules for a good poster presentation. I used some of these ideas to my advantage at the recent ISMB/ECCB 2013 conference in Berlin (19-13 July 2013), where I presented a poster on the EMBL-EBI website redesign. The article helps you think of ways to improve interaction at your poster Ideally, you can make your poster work for you, even when you’re not standing next to it. Ways to do this are things like: having a…Continue Reading “Getting the most out of a conference poster presentation”
I did twenty sketchnotes of talks at the ISMB/ECCB conference in Berlin this week. I have posted the sketchnotes at Flickr. Here are a couple of examples for you to get the idea…
Today I gave a talk at the ISMB/ECCB 2013 Conference in Berlin, and I would like to share the sketchnote of the talk with you. This was sketched by my colleague Francis Rowland (whilst I practised my talk before attending the conference). Ten simple rules… When I was preparing for my talk I found these ten tips on giving an oral presentation very helpful. There is also a similar article with tips for posters too (see my ISMB poster).
